The role of translators in news reporting has recently been gaining increasing attention. The process of translating news seems to be influenced by the ideological and political preferences of the news networks. This paper aims to investigate the influence of news organisations on the practices of news translation; that is, the social practices within an institution promoting a particular discourse, ideology or belief. It underlines the role of news translators/journalists in media discourse. It also looks at whether news translators, or journalists, are influenced by the ideological tendencies or political leanings of news institutions. In addition, the paper situates the topic of news translation within the ideological turn of Translation Studies. For the purpose of this enquiry, news articles were collected from Aljazeera and Al-Arabiya to see how translation is being conducted in news agencies. This study shows that news items can be ideologically altered to conform with the news organisations values by using a number of translation strategies. These alterations occur on the textual and lexical levels of the news items, making them carry a different representation of the news story at hand.

This paper aims at identifying aspects of disharmony between semantic and syntactic features that result in meaningless medical translated sentences. A special focus is given to Chomsky’s Transformational Generative Theory (T.G. Grammar) that extrapolates the correlation between deep structure (which determines the semantic features of a sentence) and the surface structure (which determines the syntactic structure of a sentence), putting in consideration the importance of achieving harmony between meaning and structure to produce meaningful and accurate translation of the source text (ST) resulting in an acceptable final product (target Text). The investigation of this study also relies on the concept of ‘Selectional Restrictions’ which suggests that certain sets of verbs stand with agreement with certain sets of subjects/objects that subsequently lead to the production of semantically acceptable sentences. Accordingly, it is imperative to touch upon aspects related to the Componential Analysis Theory where the meaning of a word is expressed with the assistance of (+) and (-) markers. I consider this study to be unique and innovative as it applies such prominent semantic theories, for the first time, with the craft of translation, offering real concrete examples extracted from practical translation tasks performed by students of Translation Dept., Faculty of Languages- University of Tripoli. Worth mentioning, that a piece of a translation is proved to be correct when semantic/syntactic harmony is achieved and where the message of the source text (ST) is being effectively communicated in the target text (TT). On the contrary, any disharmony between deep/surface structures found would seriously undermine the quality and correctness of a translation product. يتصدى هذا البحث لمقاربة موضوع ينفتح على مجالات و حقول أدبية متعددة ، فهو يرصد أحد مجالات الأدب المقارن " سرد الرحلات " ، و هو أدب مهجن ، ومدوَنة أدبية تشترك في دراستها معظم الحقول المعرفية ، التاريخ ، و الجغرافية ، و الأنثروبولوجيا ، إلخ ، و لم يلق الحظ الوفير من الدراسة النقدية ، التي تهدف إلى استخلاص أدبية هذا النص ، و قد تبيَن من خلال هذه الدراسة ، أن هذا النص يمتلك مكونات بنيوية تستند إلى الأدب السردي ؛ و ما يثبت ذلك هو حضور مكونات النص السردي فيه ، المتمثلة في ( الخطاب ، و القصة) ، و هو ما دعا إلى مقاربة سيميائية الوصف في خطابه – الجانب الثاني من الدراسة - فالوصف من عناصر الخطاب السردي الذي لم يلق حظه من الدراسة النقدية إلا مؤخرا ، و قد أثبت المنهج السيميائي فاعليته الإجرائية في استخلاص الوظائف الفنية و الدلالية التي يقوم بها الخطاب الواصف في النص السردي ، و صنف الوصف عبره على أنه من المكونات السردية المهمة التي تعين الناقد على مقاربة النص ، و تشييد دلالة حوله . والجانب المهم في هذه الدراسة الذي نشئت لغايته، هو إخضاعها في ضمن الأدب المقارن.
